GCSES | What Next?

So you've got your GCSE results, whatever your grades I'd like to personally congratulate you for your efforts, your patience and your past twelve years of your school career. I had a bumpy ride at school but managed to score pretty good grades, some people don't test well, some people have personal reasons for not being educated enough and some people just get the worst of luck with the grade boundaries.

Regardless, let's talk about your options ahead of you. I have personally experienced three options that you have when leaving school and I found what proved best for me but it's different for everyone.

First, you have the option to apply for a place at Sixth Form. It's adding another two years on at the school you've been attending (or another local school) and studying three core subjects you're interested in. It gets you great UCAS points but I found studying three subjects so intensely very overwhelming so hats off to all you guys who did great and hats off to all you guys who didn't do so great, it's a tough environment! However, if you manage it right and use your study time wisely you can make it happen and you can make it happen smoothly.

Secondly, you have the option to apply for a place at college to study a subject of your choice. The options range from Textiles Studies to Mathematics, if you're interested in a certain area and know exactly what you will be studying at University this is a good idea for you. It will take a Level 3 BTEC to get you into a University so ensure there is a course there that you can take. You can also stay on at college to study a HND which is generally equivalent to two years at University.

Thirdly, you have the option to apply to work in an apprenticeship. This will usually be a year at a company whilst getting paid an apprentice wage and training with college. This is amazing for gaining experience in a job role and definitely good if you aren't planning on going to University, which isn't always the path for everyone. This will get you a good wage, work experience and a qualification so it's a great option and personally the one that worked for me.

Whatever you decide to choose, remember that your whole life is ahead of you and in five years, it won't even matter what your GCSE results were as your life will be heading down it's own path.

Well done, and good luck for your futures!

Until next time...
