Parc Asterix | So Many Rollercoasters!

Arguably the best theme park in Paris!

So on Thursday 2nd August, I was lucky enough to visit Parc Asterix with my colleagues and friends on a staff trip out and it was absolutely amazing, I would even say the best theme park I have ever been to.

It is a great blend of rollercoasters, entertainment shows, thrill rides and family rides. I was determined to get onto all of the 'les attractions à sensations' which where the absolute big boy rides, and we actually made it onto all but one!

We started off with a huge rollercoaster, Oziris. This is probably one of the biggest ones there and we wanted to definitely start on a high. The queue time was around half an hour which wasn't bad and it was a ride where you sit underneath the rollercoaster instead of in a cart. It was a great way to start the day and one of my favourites.

We then ventured across the park and over to Le Cheval de Troie, a ride I can only describe as like being on an angry horse, once on it you're bucked here, there and everywhere. You're sat on a seat on a platform that is sporadically rotating and it really makes your tummy flitter! The queue was only around twenty minutes for this one.

After that ride we queued up for Pégase Express, set up to be a train station and once you're on it, although there are no loop the loops, you go down a few drops, get sent sideways and arrive in a dark room with a Medusa face. She then turns evil, sprays water at you and you are sent backwards along the track. We were at the front at first which made it even more scary going backwards. This one was probably the longest we queued for, around forty five minutes. This was also one of my favourites.

To give ourselves a bit of a rest, we went to go see the dolphin show which was amazing! I don't support animals in captivity but I was told these dolphins are rescued and looked after well so we decided to go see what they'd learned. They could do flips, jump amazingly high in the air and the trainers even got in the water with them to do some tricks. The show was opened with some very cute sea lions so we were entertained from the get go.

Amazed by the dolphins, we strolled around for a bit and drank some water before getting onto the Pirate Ship, which was apparently one of the sensational rides but this was literally just a ship that swung you back and forth, it made your tummy flitter a little but I would have said it was more of a family ride. The queue for this was virtually nothing.

Next we braved another sensational ride, Goudurix and after a twenty minute wait, we were strapped in and ready to go. This one has SEVEN loop the loops, all one after the other and although it starts with a steady climb higher than the tree tops, it is a fast whoosh straight into the ride. This was another one of my favourites, although by this point in the day it had hit 33 degree heat and it really made being rattled around that much more exhausting. Another favourite added to the list and by far the most thrilling ride I went on!

Nevertheless, we headed straight on to Tonnerre de Zeus, another one of the sensational rides and this one was definitely the most rickety ride! The ride is built from wood so it means the cart rattles a little, I'm guessing this was to simulate thunder from the almighty Zeus looking over the ride. This one was only a half hour queue also but it definitely was my least favourite as it was more painful than enjoyable. I'm still glad I went on it just to experience it though. The funny thing was that you only got to see half of the track whilst queueing up (we were queuing about half an hour) so when you are heading up toward the first drop, you see the other half of the track hidden by trees and you absolutely crap yourself! It was the longest rollercoaster ride I've ever been on.

We then went straight over to the ride opposite, Discobélix. This one is set up to be like a discus, you're sat on a huge circle facing outwards and as it goes over the bumps and up the climbs, you're spinning around and can see the whole park. It's a really great concept and amazing for someone who doesn't like rollercoasters but likes the thrills. It was also only a twenty minute queue! We had a little go around La Rivière D'élis afterward, a family ride in a floating cart around a little river. It relaxed us and we decided to then brave the water rides as the day was closing to an end.

Our first water ride was Le Grand Splatch, a ride that takes you upwards and you expect a drop but you just float around with some water effects happening and a few sprays at you. It is actually nice and relaxing until you get to the 11 metre drop and you splash into the water, but unless you're at the front you won't actually get that wet.

Afterwards we queued up for twenty minutes to get on Menhir Express, a water ride that takes you through a rickety stream of jets spraying at you, a pitch black drop and over manic whirlpools. It then takes you to a 13 metre drop where you get absolutely drenched. Me and Will were sodden through and it definitely exceeded our expectations. This one was definitely worthy of being in the sensational rides but a load of brave kids just manned it out anyway.

Lastly, we decided to go on one more rollercoaster to dry off, another sensational ride La Trace du Hourra. This one felt very freefall and has no visible tracks. After looking into it it is actually designed to be similar to a bobsled. It actually feels very light which makes your tummy flitter even more but I wouldn't have said this was one of the sensational rides, it was definitely a family one. It was still great though.

All in all my favourites were Gouderix, Oziris, and Discobélix! They were unlike any other ride's I'd been on and impressed me majorly. Tonnerre de Zeus and La Trace de Hourra were my least favourites but that doesn't mean I didn't find them enjoyable, I'd definitely still recommend going on them for the experience!

It was all in all an amazing day out to Parc Asterix and I would definitely go again and recommend it to anyone thinking of going. You can directly access their website here.
